Dutch painter and graphic artist Jan Toorop is considered one of the most important members of a group of artists that led the way towards the new directions art in the Netherlands ventured into between 1890 and 1930. Born in 1858, this set of works from 1926 is from late in the artist's life and was finished two years before his passing. It is best considered a summary of his life and is one of his last pieces. Titled 'The Sacrifice', Toorop depicted the friends who accompanied him on his life's path as well as the people he admired. He expressed the wish it could serve as a testament and farewell to his friends. Shortly afterwards he died in hospital in The Hague. Visible age to print, several available in assorted sizes.
