Massive Andre Volten (attr) Large Brushed Steel Sculpture, 1980s, Netherlands
Andre Volten (attr) / Netherlands
Stunning sculpture, attributed to André Volten (1925–2002) who was one of the most important Dutch sculptors after 1945. He was co-founder of the artist group Liga Nieuw Beelden, which produced numerous ‘constructivist’ sculptures in many cities at home and abroad, and was particularly interested in the role of art in public space. Volten began sculpting in stainless steel in the late 1960s and also often used granite. Several museums, including the Kröller-Müller Museum, the Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg, the Kunsthalle Mannheim in Mannheim and the Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten in Marl, have his works. In original condition with visible wear, including dents in the base, scratching and chips. Wear is consistent with its age and use.
