1950s Unique Corbusier Inspired Tapestry or Carpet from the Brussels Expo '58
Belgium
Stunning Mid-Century tapestry or carpet mounted on wood stretcher boards. Inspired by characters in Le Corbusier's seminal 1948 Book 'Modulor', two cubist musicians are pictured in a smoke-filled jazz club. Whimsical and bright, this is the type of play on Modernism that Corbusier himself would have loved, and possibly commissioned. We were actually informed that the tapestry was a part of the '58 Brussels Expo in Belgium, and it is very possible it was made for or in tribute to the French architect who was commissioned to create the Philips Pavilion during the fair. In original condition with age appropriate wear.
