Ateliers Genestar "Magic Box" Folding Desk Cabinet
Ateliers Genestar / France
Mid-century, 1950s "Magic Box". Expertly made by French manufacturer "Ateliers Genestar". This piece is in essence an updated version of the Wooton desk which was introduced by the Wooton Desk Company of Indianapolis in 1874. Sometime later, Mummenthaler and Meier, Swiss architects and designers, designed a modernized version in 1928. It's that version which this French iteration builds and improves on. Their version is a handsome cabinet that possesses a teak exterior that opens to an ingeniously designed desk with ample storage space and shelving. The gorgeous wooden pull out lamp deserves special mention: It was a design addition that is unique to the Genestar version that adds significantly to the cabinet's functionality and appeal. Truly extraordinary design, comes with key. When opened the cabinet measures: 66 x 29 x 44.5". Lightly refinished, cabinet has some signs of age appropriate wear
