Set of 4 Post Modern Rattan Chairs by Luit van der Helm

Luit van der Helm / Van der Helm Design / Netherlands

Set of 4 rattan dining chairs by Luit van der Helm with curved backs and new canvas upholstered seats. Chairs have a continuous, elegantly swooping frame with newly upholstered natural canvas seating. Luit van der Helm was born and raised in Noordwolde, a small town in the northern province of Frisia that can be considered the epicenter of Dutch rattan furniture. His father was a representative for a number of legendary companies hailing from the small Frisian town, and as a result, the young designer grew to have a natural affinity for the region's preferred material, albeit in a more contemporary fashion. His company, Van der Helm Design, was founded in the 1980s and has been steadily building on the legacy of companies like Gebr. Jonkers and Rohé, to considerable success. These chairs are from the 90s and have some rattan loss and wear that is consistent with their age and use.
