Le Bambole chaise lounge in butterscotch suede by Mario Bellini for C&B Italia, 1972. The Bambole series has become an iconic symbol of Italian design. It was awarded the 'Compasso d'Oro' award in 1979 and is now in MoMA's permanent collection. The apparent absence of supporting structure is what distinguishes the series. Bellini wanted to create a design that was "built in fabric rather than upholstered with it." As a result, a metal frame inside each Bambole ensures stability, while the generous polyurethane padding makes it impossible not to enjoy its embrace. This piece is in original condition with visible wear consistent with its age and use.
