Dirk Jan (Jan) de Graaf was born on June 14, 1948, in Heerde. He began making pottery in Elburg in the early 1970s, when there was a huge demand for hand-thrown, gritty, artisanal earthenware. He is a self-taught potter. Together with his wife Hennie, Jan de Graaf successfully met this demand and became well-known for his exquisite ceramics. This is a beautiful example of his output from that era. Signed on bottom with original gold label
