Set of 4 Arnold Merckx for Arco "DLA/DSA" armchairs
Arnold Merckx / Arco / Netherlands
Set of 4, Mid-Century, Arnold Merckx for Arco "DLA/DSA" armchairs with original upholstery, complementing birch backrests and black enameled metal frames. The name of Arco (short for Arend Cornelis, son of the company’s founder and the company’s chief executive during and after WWII) and its modernist line of products leads some to assume that the company is Italian. Arnold Merckx, born in Franeker, grew up in a family of carpenters and learned the trade at a young age. In the late 1970s his intensive collaboration with Arco began and he began shaping a large part of the company's collection – with some designs still in production to this day. A stunning example of this collaboration, this 1980's set of Merckx designed chairs, is in original condition with some visible age appropriate wear. See the pair of Thonet arm chairs (S219) as complementary captains chairs for this set.
