The spherical form of the design, which was created with practicality and not just pleasing esthetics in mind, draws cold air from the floor, heats it, and distributes it equally in all directions. For his work Wolthekker received a prominent design award in 1965, an accolade that was earned by the piece's harmonious marriage of form and function. This stove is in original condition with wear consistent with age and use.
