Mathieu Mategot Inspired Mirror with Woven Mesh Frame by Vereinigte Werkstätten Münich, 1950s
Mathieu Mategot Style / Vereinigte Werkstätten Münich / Germany
Mathieu Mategot inspired woven brass mesh mirror by German manufacturer Vereinigte Werkstätten Münich. Established in Munich, Germany in 1897, the Vereinigte Werkstätten für Kunst im Handwerk (United Workshops for Art in Craft) was one of several design projects in the late 19th century that aimed to increase the applied arts' visibility. With its own workshops and showrooms, it developed into a prosperous commercial operation based on the Arts and Crafts Movement concept of a community of craftsmen creating aesthetically charged ordinary goods. Peter Behrens, Bruno Paul, Richard Riemerschmid, and Hermann Obrist were among the group's important designers. This piece, from the 1950's is in original condition with visible wear and patina including some signs of enamel chipping. The wear is consistent with its age and use.
